The Hotchkiss School seeks to inspire a diverse range of students who are committed to the betterment of self and society, and to cultivate in them, at the highest standards of excellence, imagination and intellect, openness and personal integrity, and empathy and responsible citizenship, that they may discover and fulfill their potential as individuals fully engaged in our world.  In the 2017-2018 school year, 15% of students are international, 33% are U.S. students of color, and 93% of students are boarders.

Position Summary

The Hotchkiss School, a coeducational boarding school in Lakeville, CT, is seeking a dynamic, creative, thoughtful part-time instructor to join the faculty of its Human Development (HD) Program beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year. Weekly Human Development courses seek to increase our students’ understanding of their own personal growth and development, to help our students recognize and prepare for the challenges of becoming healthy, autonomous young adults, and to foster an understanding of adolescents in this community and other cultures. Students will learn to identify and interpret reliable information and resources that support their health needs and the needs of their friends and families. Subject matter includes adolescent development, physical wellness and emotional health, community living, families, drugs/alcohol issues, relationships, and sexuality.

The Human Development courses provide a space to review the social challenges that affect the quality of community life, and invite students to explore ways to create and remain in successful relationship to self and others in our intercultural, pluralistic community, through the transition to Hotchkiss and boarding school life.
